Domaine Clos Saint-Jean - Chateauneuf du Pape
A fine Châteauneuf, the Clos Saint-Jean is a family estate created in 1900 by Edmond Tacussel who registered the name in 1910. Today, over half of the vines on the 41 hectares of the property (40 of which are classed AOC Châteauneuf du Pape) are spread over the Crau plateau, one of the best terroirs of the appellation.
The current reputation of this historic estate owes much to the descendants, the brothers Pascal and Vincent Maurel who, since the 2003 vintage, have profoundly revised production methods under the aegis of the consultant oenologist Philippe Cambie. Here the soil is respected, no insecticides are used, and at harvest time the grapes are entirely hand-picked.
